Internet Explorer Error Codes.

Problem

Internet Explorer has come up with an error code.

Cause/Solution

Look down in the Table below and you will find a explanation to what’s happened and what you can do should this error occur:

Error Code What it means and Solution?

HTTP 400

“The webpage cannot be found.” It has connected to the server but the Website cannot be loaded (URL). this often happens when the web address isn’t typed correctly. Check spelling and try again.
HTTP 403
″The website declined to show this web page” Internet Explorer is able to connect to the website but doesnt have permissions to view the webpage due to:

Insufficient Admin rights – contact the administrator if you should be able to view it
The content on the web page hasn’t been configured properly on their server – contact the Administrator.
The web address doesn’t have a default address or you cannot view directory listings (you cannot view files in the web folder). To fix this check and type the correct web page address and if it’s still not working then contact the administrator or where you got the web address from.
HTTP 404
″The webpage cannot be found” This means the website can be found but the website is unavailable. This is usually due to it being taken down for maintenance or been deleted, try again later when the web page maybe back online.
HTTP 405
″The website cannot display the page” Internet Explorer is able to connect to the website but cannot download the web page. This is commonly caused by the way the website has been made, contact the Administrators of the website.
HTTP 406
″Internet Explorer cannot read this webpage format” Internet Explorer is able to gather the information from the website but cannot display it due to it being in a format or way it has been programmed. Try a different browser.

HTTP 408 or 409

“The website is too busy to show the web page” The response from the server the website is on took too long as too many people were trying to access it at any one time, or there servers are offline. Wait and try again later.

HTTP 410

“That webpage no longer exists” Internet Explorer can connect to the website but the web page cannot be found, this is a similar error to 404 but means that this is permanent and been done by the administrator of the website. There is no solution to this as this means the websites been taken down.

HTTP 500

“The website cannot display the page” The websites servers have an issue that means the website itself cannot be displayed. This can be because of maintenance done to the website or other programming errors on the server. Wait and try again later.
HTTP 501
″The website is unable to display the webpage “

(HTTP 501– Not Implemented) This means the website isn’t set up correctly for what it is requesting to view, for example: the extensions to some files are incorrect. Contact the administrator.

HTTP 505
″”The website is unable to display the web page “

(HTTP 505 – Version Not Supported) This means the website does not support the version of HTTP protocol the browser is requesting to use. Try updating your browser or try a different one.

If you cannot see these error codes try turning off “Friendly Error Messages”, this means instead of being given simple information of what to try and what went wrong you will be displayed the Error Code instead. To do this:
Open Internet Explorer
Click on Tools
Then click on Internet Options
Click on the advanced tab and scroll down to the browsing section in the table
Un-tick “Show friendly HTTP error messages” and then click OK.

You may need to restart Internet Explorer for this to take effect.
